This article, “The Obligation to Show Enmity Towards the Jews, Polytheists, and Other Disbelievers,” is part of the Fatwa Collection of Shaykh Bin Baz
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, his companions, and those rightly guided by his guidance.
To proceed:
Some local newspapers published a statement by certain individuals, which read as follows:
“We do not harbor enmity towards the Jews or Judaism, and we respect all heavenly religions.”
This was said in the context of discussing the situation in the Middle East after the Jewish aggression against the Arabs.
Since this statement about the Jews and Judaism clearly contradicts the Noble Qur’an and the purified Sunnah, and it also goes against Islamic creed — and considering that some people may be misled by it — I saw it necessary to clarify the error it contains, as a sincere advice for the sake of Allah and His servants.
So I say, seeking help from Allah: The Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Muslims indicate that it is obligatory for Muslims to show enmity towards the disbelievers among the Jews, Christians, and other polytheists, and to be cautious of loving them and taking them as allies.
As Allah, Glorified and Exalted, informed us in His clear Book — one that falsehood cannot approach from before it or behind it — a revelation from the All-Wise, the Praiseworthy, that the Jews and polytheists are the most severe in enmity toward the believers.
Allah the Most High said:
“O you who have believed, do not take My enemy and your enemy as allies, extending to them affection while they have disbelieved in what came to you of the truth, having driven out the Messenger and yourselves because you believe in Allah, your Lord. If you have come out for jihad in My cause and seeking My approval, then do not take them as allies. You confide to them affection, but I am most knowing of what you have concealed and what you have declared. And whoever does it among you has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way.” (Al-Mumtahanah: 1)
“There has already been for you an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: ‘Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have rejected you, and there has appeared between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone.'” (Al-Mumtahanah: 4)
“O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you — then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.” (Al-Ma’idah: 51)
“O you who have believed, do not take your fathers or your brothers as allies if they have preferred disbelief over belief. And whoever does so among you — then it is those who are the wrongdoers.” (At-Tawbah: 23)
To be continued in the next part, in shā’ Allāh.
