As for the author’s statement:
“And indeed, we respect all divinely-revealed religions.”
This statement is true in its basic meaning — that respecting divinely-revealed religions is permissible. However, it is necessary for the reader to be aware that those religions, aside from Islam, have undergone extensive distortion and alteration, to an extent that only Allah the Exalted fully knows.
As for the religion of Islam — which Allah sent with His Prophet, His intimate friend, and His chosen one from all of creation: our Prophet, our leader, and our master, Muhammad ibn Abdullah ﷺ — Allah has taken it upon Himself to preserve and safeguard it from alteration and distortion. He has done so by protecting His Noble Book and the authentic Sunnah of His trustworthy Messenger — may the best blessings and peace from his Lord be upon him — as He, the Exalted, said:
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian.” (Al-Hijr: 9)
Thus, Allah preserved this religion and protected it from the plots of its enemies by appointing brilliant, critical, and trustworthy scholars who defend it against the distortions of extremists, the fabrications of liars, the false interpretations of innovators, and the misinterpretations of the ignorant. No one attempts to alter or corrupt it without Allah exposing and nullifying his scheme.
As for the other religions, Allah did not guarantee their preservation. Rather, He entrusted them to some of His servants, but they were unable to protect them as required.
Consequently, they were subjected to various forms of distortion and alteration — the extent of which only Allah knows. As He, the Exalted, said:
“Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allah] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars — by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto.” (Al-Ma’idah: 44)
And He, Glorified and Exalted, also said:
“…They distort words beyond their proper places…” (Al-Ma’idah: 41)
And He, Glorified be He, also said:
“So woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, then say, ‘This is from Allah,’ in order to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn.” (Al-Baqarah: 79)
And Allah, the Most High, also said:
“And indeed, there is among them a group who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, ‘This is from Allah,’ but it is not from Allah. And they speak untruth about Allah while they know.” (Aali Imran: 78)
There are many verses of similar meaning.
As for whatever remained pure from previous heavenly religions, it has been abrogated by Allah through the sending of His Messenger Muhammad ﷺ and the revelation of the Noble Qur’an.
For Allah, the Exalted, sent His Messenger Muhammad ﷺ to all people, and abrogated all previous laws with his legislation.
He made His Noble Book (the Qur’an) a guardian and authority over all other revealed scriptures.
Therefore, it is obligatory upon all inhabitants of the earth — both jinn and human, whether they are Jews, Christians, or others among the descendants of Adam and the jinn — to enter the religion of Allah which was brought by the seal of the messengers, and to adhere to it and remain steadfast upon it.
Because this is the religion of Islam — the only religion Allah accepts — as He, the Exalted, said:
“Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam…” (Aali Imran: 19)
“So if they argue with you, say, ‘I have submitted myself to Allah [in Islam], and so have those who follow me.’ And say to those who were given the Scripture and to the unlettered, ‘Have you submitted yourselves?’ And if they submit, they are rightly guided; but if they turn away — then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants.” (Aali Imran: 19–20)
