This article, “The Obligation to Show Enmity Towards the Jews, Polytheists, and Other Disbelievers,” is part of the Fatwa Collection of Shaykh Bin Baz

And Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, said:

قُولُوا آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْنَا … [البقرة:١٣٦ – ١٣٧]

Say, [O believers], “We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.” So if they believe in the same as you believe in, then they have been [rightly] guided; but if they turn away, they are only in dissension, and Allah will be sufficient for you against them. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing. (Al-Baqarah: 136–137)

And Allah, the Exalted, also said:

وَمَنْ يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا … [آل عمران : ٨٥]

And whoever desires other than Islam as religion—never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers. (Aali Imran: 85)

And Allah said in Surah Al-Ma’idah, after mentioning the Torah and the Gospel, addressing His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ:

وَأَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَابََ بِالْحَقِّ …

And We have sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.

And judge, [O Muhammad], between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations and beware of them, lest they tempt you away from some of what Allah has revealed to you. And if they turn away — then know that Allah only intends to afflict them with some of their [own] sins. And indeed, many among the people are defiantly disobedient. (Al-Ma’idah: 48–50)

In these noble verses is a clear indication and definitive proof that judging among the Jews, the Christians, and all people must be done with what Allah has revealed to His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It also confirms that no one can truly submit to Islam, nor find guidance, except through following what he ﷺ was sent with.

Whatever opposes this guidance falls under the rule of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), and that there is no judgment better than that of Allah. Allah the Exalted also says in Surah Al-A’raf:

وَاكْتُبْ لَنَا فِي هَذِهِ الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً …

And decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You. Allah said, “My punishment—I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things.” So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses. (Al-A’raf: 156)

Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written [i.e., mentioned] in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him — it is those who will be the successful. (Al-A’raf: 157)

This noble verse contains conclusive proof and irrefutable evidence that the mission of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was universal — sent to all of mankind including the Jews and Christians. He was sent to ease their burdens, lift their constraints, and bring mercy to them.

And that no one — whether among those who lived during his ﷺ time or afterward until the Day of Judgment — can achieve true success except through belief in him, support of him, reverence for him, and following the light that was revealed with him: the Noble Qur’an.

Then Allah, Exalted be He, further reinforced this matter and clarified the universality of the Prophet’s ﷺ message with His saying:

قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ … [الأعراف : ١٥٨]

Say, [O Muhammad], “O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death.” So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided. (Al-A’raf: 158)
