The Obligation to Show Enmity Towards the Jews, Polytheists, and Other Disbelievers (Part Six)

This article, “The Obligation to Show Enmity Towards the Jews, Polytheists, and Other Disbelievers,” is part of the Fatwa Collection of Shaykh Bin Baz رحمه الله تعالى
ومن هذه الآية وما قبلها من الآيات يتضح لكل عاقل أن الهداية والنجاة والسعادة إنما تحصل لمن آمن بمحمد ﷺ واتبع ما جاء به من الهدى،
From this verse and the ones before it, it becomes clear to every person of sound mind that true guidance, salvation, and happiness in this world and the hereafter can only be attained by those who believe in Muhammad ﷺ and follow the guidance and truth he brought.
ومن حاد عن ذلك فهو في شقاق وضلال وبعد عن الهدى، بل هو الكافر حقا وله النار يوم القيامة، كما قال سبحانه:
And whoever deviates from this path is in dissension, misguidance, and far from the truth. Indeed, he is a true disbeliever, and the Fire will be his destination on the Day of Judgment, as Allah the Exalted said:
وَمَنْْ يَكْفُرْ بِهِ مِنَ الْأَحْزَابِ فَالنَّارُ مَوْعِدُه [هود : ١٧]
“And whoever disbelieves in it among the [various] factions — the Fire will be his promised destination.” (Surah Hud: 17)
وقال تعالى :
And Allah the Almighty also said:
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا كَافَّةً لِلنَّاسِ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا [سبأ : ٢٨]
“And We have not sent you [O Muhammad], except to all mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner.” (Surah Saba’: 28)
وقال تعالى :
And Allah the Almighty also said:
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ [الأنبياء : ١٠٧]
“And We have not sent you [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Surah Al-Anbiya: 107)
وقال تعالى :
And Allah the Almighty also said:
تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًا [الفرقان : ١]
“Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner.” (Surah Al-Furqan: 1)
وفي الصحيحين عن جابر بن عبدالله رضي الله عنه قال : قال رسول الله ﷺ :
In Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim, Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
أُعْطِيتُ خَمْسًا لَمْ يُعْطَهُنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ قَبْلِي …
“I have been given five things that were not given to anyone before me: I was given victory through fear (instilled in the enemy) for a distance of one month; the earth was made a place of prostration and purification for me, so any man of my nation who reaches the time of prayer can pray wherever he is; war booty was made lawful for me, which was not lawful for anyone before me; I was granted intercession; and every Prophet was sent only to his people, but I was sent to all mankind.”
وفي صحيح مسلم عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ :
And in Sahih Muslim, Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لا يَسْمَعُ بِي أَحَدٌ …
“By Him in whose hand is my soul, no one of this nation, be he Jew or Christian, hears of me then dies without believing in what I was sent with, except that he will be among the people of the Fire.”
والآيات والأحاديث في هذا المعنى كثيرة،
There are many verses and hadiths with this meaning.
وأرجو أن يكون فيما ذكرناه دلالة ومقنع للقارئ …
I hope that what we have mentioned here serves as sufficient evidence and convincing proof for the reader on the obligation to show enmity toward the disbelievers — from among the Jews and others — and to dislike them for the sake of Allah, and that it is prohibited to show affection to them or to take them as allies.
وعلى نسخ جميع الشرائع السماوية ما عدا شريعة الإسلام …
And it confirms the abrogation of all previous divine laws except for the law of Islam brought by the Seal of the Prophets and Leader of the Messengers, the Imam of the pious, our Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah ﷺ. May Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, all the other Prophets and Messengers, and all the righteous. We ask Allah to include us among those who follow them in goodness until the Day of Judgment. Verily, He has power over all things.
وليس معنى نسخ الشرائع السابقة أنها لا تحترم، …
The abrogation of previous laws does not mean that they are not to be respected or that it is permissible to belittle them. This is not the intended meaning.
وإنما المراد رفع ما قد يتوهمه بعض الناس …
Rather, the intended meaning is to eliminate the misconception held by some that it is permissible to follow any part of those previous laws, or to assume that those who identify as Jews or otherwise are still upon guidance. Those laws have been abrogated and are not to be followed — even if one assumes they remain unaltered and pure — let alone when much of them has been distorted or lost due to the tampering of the enemies of Allah.
الذين يكتمون الحق وهم يعلمون …
These enemies of Allah are those who knowingly conceal the truth and fabricate lies about Allah and His religion, based on their desires. They write books with their own hands and say: “This is from Allah” — but it is not from Allah at all.
وبذلك يعلم كل من له أدنى علم وبصيرة …
Thus, anyone with even a little knowledge and insight will understand that it is obligatory upon all accountable beings — both jinn and mankind — to enter into the religion of Allah, which is Islam, and to commit to it.
وأنه لا يسوغ لأحد الخروج عن ذلك …
And that no one is permitted to deviate from this religion — not to Judaism, nor Christianity, nor any other religion.
بل المفروض على جميع المكلفين …
Indeed, it is an obligation upon every accountable individual, from the time Allah sent His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ until the Day of Resurrection, to enter into Islam and adhere to it firmly.
ومن اعتقد أنه يسوغ له الخروج عن شريعة محمد ﷺ …
Whoever believes that he is allowed to abandon the law of Muhammad ﷺ — as Khidr was allowed to act apart from the law of Musa, the one spoken to by the Most Merciful — is a disbeliever by the consensus of the scholars.
يستتاب وتُبَيَّن له الأدلة …
Such a person must be called to repentance and the evidences explained to him. If he repents, it is accepted. Otherwise, he is to be executed, in accordance with the Qur’anic verses and Prophetic traditions affirming that the message of Muhammad ﷺ is universal to all jinn and mankind.
والله المستعان وهو حسبنا ونعم الوكيل …
Allah is the One from whom we seek help. He is sufficient for us, and the best Disposer of affairs. We ask Him, the Mighty and Majestic, to keep us steadfast upon His religion, to rectify the condition of all Muslims, and to guide His servants into His religion, and to disbelieve in all that contradicts it. Indeed, He is capable of all things. May peace and blessings be upon His servant and Messenger Muhammad, and upon all the prophets, messengers, and righteous people. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
