السؤال

Question:

ماحكم كافر شرب واغتسل من ماء زمزم؟

What is the ruling on a disbeliever drinking and bathing with Zamzam water?

وما ذا يقول الإنسان عند شرب ماء زمزم؟

What should a person say when drinking Zamzam water?

الإجابــة

Answer:

الحمد

All praise is due to Allah.

فإذا كان وجه السؤال عن استعمال الكافر لماء زمزم شربا أو اغتسالا هو: هل يعد هذا العمل دخولاً في الإسلام أم لا؟ فالجواب لا.

 

If the purpose of the question regarding a disbeliever using Zamzam water by drinking or bathing with it is: whether this action is considered entering into Islam or not? The answer is: no.

فالكافر كافر ما لم يشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمداً رسول الله ويقيم الصلاة ويوت الزكاة، ويصوم رمضان، ويحج البيت إن استطاع إليه سبيلاً، ولو عمل ما عمل من أعمال البر.

A disbeliever remains a disbeliever as long as he does not bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establish prayer, pay zakat, fast Ramadan, and perform pilgrimage to the House if he is able to find a way to it, even if he performs whatever righteous deeds he may perform.

أما إذا كان المسئول عنه هو جواز شرب الكافر أو اغتساله من ماء زمزم ؟ فالجواب:

As for if what is asked about is the permissibility of a disbeliever drinking or bathing with Zamzam water, then the answer is:

أنا لا نعلم مانعا من ذلك ولو صح ما ذهب إليه بعض أهل العلم من كراهة إزالة النجاسات به أو دفع الأحداث لكان الكافر أولى بذلك لكنه لم يصح.

We do not know of any prohibition against that. Even if what some people of knowledge held regarding the dislike of removing impurities or lifting ritual impurities with it were correct, the disbeliever would be more fitting for that ruling, but it is not correct.

أما ما يقال عند الشرب منه. فعن أبي مليكة قال: جاء رجل إلى ابن عباس فقال: من أين جئت؟ قال: شربت من ماء زمزم. قال ابن عباس أشربت منها كما ينبغي؟ قال: وكيف ذاك ياابن عباس؟ قال: إذا شربت منها فاستقبل القبلة واذكر الله، وتنفس ثلاثا وتضلع منها، فإذا فرغت فاحمد الله فإن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال:

As for what is said when drinking from it, it was narrated on the authority of Abu Mulaikah who said: A man came to Ibn ‘Abbas and he said, “Where have you come from?” He said, “I drank from the water of Zamzam.” Ibn ‘Abbas said, “Did you drink from it as it ought to be drunk?” He said, “How is that, O Ibn ‘Abbas?” He said, “When you drink from it, face the Qiblah, mention the name of Allah, breathe three times, and drink until your ribs are filled. When you finish, praise Allah. For the Messenger of Allah shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said:

“آية ما بيننا وبين المنافقين أنهم لا يتضلعون من ماء زمزم” رواه ابن ماجه والدارقطني والحاكم،

The sign between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink until their ribs are filled from the water of Zamzam.” (Narrated by Ibn Majah, Ad-Daraquthni, and Al-Hakim).

وكان ابن عباس إذا شرب من ماء زمزم قال: اللهم إني أسألك علما نافعاً، ورزقاً واسعاً، وشفاء من كل داء.

When Ibn ‘Abbas drank from the water of Zamzam, he would supplicate: O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and healing from every disease.
