Question:
Does the well of Zamzam still exist until now? And is the water coming out in the place designated for the well in the Makkah Sanctuary truly from the water of Zamzam throughout the centuries, or has it dried up and the water coming out is from other wells in Makkah and not Zamzam? May Allah reward you with all goodness.

Answer:
All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his companions. To proceed:
Indeed, Zamzam is the name for the famous well in the Sacred Mosque, between which and the Noble Ka’bah is eighty-eight cubits. This well, by the praise of Allah Ta’ala, remains standing, pumping the good, blessed water from that history until today.
And it is not an extension from other places as it is not in need of that, because it is an honor (makramah) from Allah Ta’ala, the Most High, the All-Powerful. Al-Bukhari reported from Ibn ‘Abbas radhiallahu ‘anhu that the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said:
“May Allah have mercy on the mother of Ishmael! Had she left Zamzam—or he said: Had she not scooped up the water—Zamzam would have been a flowing spring.” (HR. Al-Bukhari)
And in a narration: “Had she left it, the water would have appeared on the surface of the earth.” This indicates the abundance and continuity of the water.
The proof for this is that this well has never been empty on any single day of people coming to it to quench their thirst from its water, and that has never changed at all. In our contemporary era, modern machinery has been used to extract its water to bring ease and facilitation to the people.
For further benefit, we advise the brother to look into a treatise entitled Fadhlu Ma’i Zamzam by the author Bakdash, for it is a valuable treatise.
And Allah knows best.
