Question:
I have read a great deal about al-Masih ad-Dajjal, but I have not found much about how to protect oneself from him, whether through dhikr or recitation of the Qur’an. Please explain.

Answer:
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his Companions. To proceed:
The Prophet ﷺ guided his Ummah to the means by which they may be protected from the trial of the Dajjal. Among these means are:
- Holding firmly to Islam, arming oneself with tawhid, and knowing Allah through His Names and Attributes that no one else shares. In this way, one recognizes that the Dajjal is merely a human being like other human beings and that his claim to divinity is false, so one will not be deceived by him.
- Seeking refuge in Allah from his trial, especially during prayer. In Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate in prayer:
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of al-Masih ad-Dajjal.” (Narrated by Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim)
- Memorizing verses from Surah al-Kahf. In Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Abu ad-Darda’, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surah al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.” In another narration: from the end of the surah. (Narrated by Imam Muslim)
- Fleeing from the Dajjal and keeping away from him because of the extraordinary occurrences and doubts that Allah allows to take place through him. Ahmad narrated, and al-Albani graded authentic, from ‘Imran bin Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever hears of the Dajjal should keep far away from him. By Allah, a man may come to him thinking that he is a believer, yet end up following him because of the doubts he brings.” (Narrated by Imam Ahmad — graded authentic by al-Albani)
And Allah knows best.
