Answer:

All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his Companions. To proceed:

Reciting the Noble Qur’an is among the best acts of obedience and one of the greatest means of drawing closer to Allah. Therefore, when a Muslim wishes to recite the Qur’an, he should prepare himself for it and observe the appropriate etiquettes so that he may attain the reward mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ:

“Whoever recites one letter from the Book of Allah Most High will receive one good deed, and each good deed is multiplied tenfold. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter; rather, Alif is one letter, Lam is one letter, and Mim is one letter.” (Narrated by at-Tirmidhi from Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him).

Imam an-Nawawi said in at-Tibyan: “Know that the correct view is that reciting the Qur’an is better than tasbih, tahlil, and other forms of dhikr.”

Among the most important etiquettes that a reciter of the Qur’an should observe is to intend by his recitation the pleasure of Allah Most High and to draw closer to Him. If an act is tainted by showing off, seeking reputation, or competing with others, then it loses its value and may even become a source of harm for the person who performs it.

Another etiquette is maintaining both outward and inward purity: outwardly, by being free from ritual and physical impurity, and inwardly, by purifying oneself from sins and acts of disobedience.

One should also recite while reflecting upon the meanings of the Qur’an, with humility in the heart and submission in one’s limbs. The reciter should not engage in distracting movements or occupy his hearing or sight with things that are inconsistent with proper recitation.

Another recommended etiquette is to wear clean clothing, maintain a dignified appearance, and face the qiblah if possible.

It is also recommended to use the siwak before reciting. The reciter should keep his mouth clean by rinsing it whenever necessary, and he should avoid smoking and all unpleasant odors.

He should also avoid interrupting his recitation for worldly matters unless doing so is necessary.

And Allah knows best.
