السؤال

Question:

ما حكم التلاوة السريعة للقرآن في الصلاة، أي كترديد الآيات بغرض المراجعة بدون التدقيق في المعاني وأحكام التجويد؟ وذلك بغرض مراجعة أكبر كم من الآيات في اليوم. فهل هذا جائز في صلاة النافلة وقضاء الفروض؟

What is the ruling on reciting the Qur’an quickly during prayer, such as repeating verses for the purpose of review without paying close attention to their meanings or the rules of tajwid? This is done in order to review as many verses as possible in a single day. Is this permissible in voluntary prayers and when making up missed obligatory prayers?

Answer:

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله، وعلى آله وصحبه، أما بعد:

All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his Companions. To proceed:

فإن قراءة القرآن بالتجويد واجبة في الصلاة وفي غيرها، ويدل لذلك قول الله تعالى:

Reciting the Qur’an with proper tajwid is obligatory both in prayer and outside of prayer. This is indicated by the words of Allah Most High:

وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا [سورة المزمل: ٤].

“And recite the Qur’an with measured recitation.” (Surah al-Muzzammil, verse 4),

وقوله تعالى:

and His words:

الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَتْلُونَهُ حَقَّ تِلاَوَتِهِ أُوْلَئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ [سورة البقرة: ١٢١].

“Those to whom We have given the Book recite it as it should be recited; they are the ones who truly believe in it.” (Surah al-Baqarah, verse 121).

وقد فسر علي -رضي الله عنه- الترتيل بتجويد الحروف ومعرفة الوقوف، قال الناظم:

‘Ali bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, interpreted tartil as properly articulating the letters and knowing the places of stopping. As stated in the following verse:

إمام هذي الأمة الحبر علي قد فسر الترتيل في ورتل
بأنـــه التجـــويــد للحــروف ضم إلــى معرفة الوقوف

The learned Imam of this Ummah, ‘Ali, explained tartil in the command “warattil” —
as perfecting the pronunciation of the letters, together with knowing the proper places to stop.

وقد نهى ابن مسعود أن يقرأ القرآن هذّاً كهذِّ الشعر، وفسر ابن حجر الهذَّ بالإسراع المفرط، بحيث يخفى كثير من الحروف أو لا تخرج من مخارجها، وهذا هو المسمى عند أهل القرآن باللحن الخفي وهو محرم، وأما الإسراع بالقراءة مع مراعاة أحكام التجويد الذي يسمى بالحدر، فهو جائز عند أهل العلم.

Ibn Mas’ud prohibited reciting the Qur’an in an excessively hurried manner like the rapid recitation of poetry. Ibn Hajar explained al-hadhdh as excessive speed in recitation to the point that many letters become indistinct or are not pronounced from their proper points of articulation. This is what the scholars of Qur’anic recitation call lahn khafi (hidden error), and it is prohibited. As for reciting quickly while still observing the rules of tajwid, which is known as al-hadr, this is permissible according to the scholars.

قال الناظم:

A poet wrote:

والحدر وهو سرعة القراءة يجوز للقارئ دون مرية
مـا لـم يكـن بحــــدره يـؤدي ذاك إلى بتر حروف المد
أو اختلاس أكثر الحـركة أو يك يذهب بصوت الغنة
أو يك يختل به إعراب فامنعه إذ ذاك وذا الصواب

Al-hadr, which is rapid recitation, is permissible for the reciter without doubt,
so long as that rapid pace does not lead to cutting short the letters of madd,
or diminishing the proper vowel sounds, or causing the sound of ghunnah to disappear,
or disturbing the grammatical inflection; if it does, then prohibit it, for that is what is correct.
