The purpose of revealing the Noble Qur’an is to guide people and bring them out of the darkness of shirk and disobedience into the light of tawhid and obedience, so that they may attain happiness in this world and the Hereafter. Allah Most High says:
الر كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ لِتُخْرِجَ النَّاسَ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَى صِرَاطِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ {إبراهيم:١}
“Alif-Lam-Ra. This is a Book which We have revealed to you so that you may bring people out of darkness into light, by the permission of their Lord, to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.” (Surah Ibrahim, verse 1)
والغاية من إنزاله أيضا ليتدبر العباد ويتعظوا ويتذكروا ويستعدوا ليوم القيامة. قال تعالى:
Another purpose of its revelation is so that Allah’s servants may reflect upon its verses, take admonition, remember, and prepare themselves for the Day of Resurrection. Allah Most High says:
كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آَيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الأَلْبَابِ {ص:٢٩}
“This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you so that they may reflect upon its verses and so that people of understanding may take heed.” (Surah Sad, verse 29)
قال ابن جرير: ليتدبروا حجج الله التي فيه وما شرع فيه من شرائعه فيتعظوا ويعملوا به.
Ibn Jarir said: “So that they may reflect upon the proofs of Allah contained in it and the laws He has prescribed therein, then take admonition and act upon them.”
وقال تعالى: هُوَ الَّذِي يُنَزِّلُ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ آَيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ لِيُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ {الحديد:٩}
Allah also says: “He is the One who sends down clear verses to His servant so that He may bring you out of darkness into light.” (Surah al-Hadid, verse 9)
