It is only natural for followers and supporters to praise the one they follow. What draws greater attention, however, is praise coming from those who differ with him. According to the author, this is a truth that cannot be avoided or disputed. They were unable to conceal or erase it, and so their own tongues testified to it, becoming an argument against those among their people who persist in obstinacy and opposition, preferring falsehood, distortion, and the reversal of facts. We present here some of these statements as a contribution to defending this great Prophet and noble Messenger:
1- “Muhammad ﷺ was the only man in history who was supremely and remarkably successful on both the religious and secular levels. This unique and unparalleled combination of religious and worldly influence entitles him to be regarded as the most influential figure in human history.” (American scholar Michael Hart)
2- “For many centuries, the Arabs had lived in the deserts and oases of the Arabian Peninsula, spreading disorder there, until Muhammad ﷺ came and called them to believe in one God, the Creator and Originator, and united them into a single harmonious community.” (Rudi Paret)
3- “Muhammad ﷺ dismantled Arab society from its very foundations and roots and erected a new social structure… Muhammad ﷺ was the Messenger of God to other peoples just as he was the Messenger of God to the Arabs.” (David de Santillana)
4- “The ideas of the Messenger ﷺ, whether those he received through revelation or those reached through his own reasoning, stimulated the study of history to an unparalleled degree.” (Franz Rosenthal)
5- “Muhammad ﷺ had to demonstrate, in the shortest possible time, the excellence of the Arab people after God had favored them with a religion sublime in its simplicity and clarity, and with its firm doctrine of monotheism in contrast to the continual uncertainty of religious beliefs. If we recognize that this great achievement realized, within a remarkably short period, one of the greatest hopes of human life, then we must acknowledge that Muhammad ﷺ remains among the greatest men ever honored in the history of peoples and religions.” (Jacques Risler)
6- “He was like his brothers among the earlier prophets, peace be upon them, but was superior to them beyond comparison… He was an ascetic, a jurist, a legislator, and a practical man.” (George Sarton)
7- “The Prophet ﷺ was not merely a Messenger guiding people to faith; he was also a leader and the head of a people. He resolved to make that people the best nation brought forth for mankind, and he achieved what he sought… In Makkah, a child was born, and at the moment of his birth it never occurred to any nation that he would become Ahmad, one of the greatest men in the world — indeed, in history — and perhaps the greatest of them all.” (Nasri Salhab)
