Translated by: Reza Ervani bin Asmanu
This article on the Guardianship of Abu Talib over the Messenger of Allah is part of Life of Prophet Muhammad
After the death of Abdul Muttalib, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was under the care of his uncle Abu Talib. It is said that Abdul Muttalib entrusted him to Abu Talib, since Abdullah, the father of the Messenger of Allah, and Abu Talib were full brothers from the same father and mother. Their mother was Fatimah bint Amr bin Aidh bin Abdu bin Imran bin Makhzum.
Ibn Hisham added: “(His full name was) Aidh bin Imran bin Makhzum.”

The Prophecy of a Man from Lahab about the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him
Ibn Ishaq narrated from Yahya bin ‘Ubad bin Abdullah bin al-Zubair, from his father: A man from Lahab — Ibn Hisham explained: Lahab was a tribe from Azd Shanu’ah — was a soothsayer. When he came to Makkah, the men of Quraysh would bring their boys to him so he could look at them and make predictions for them. On one occasion, Abu Talib brought the young Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, along with others. The man looked at the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then was distracted by something else. When he finished, he said: “Where is the boy? Bring him to me.” When Abu Talib noticed his eagerness for the child, he hid him away. The man kept saying: “Woe to you! Return to me the boy I just saw! By Allah, he will have a great future.” So Abu Talib left quickly.
