إن محبتنا لنبينا صلى الله عليه وسلم عبادة وقربة من أعظم القربات التي نتقرب بها إلى الله عز وجل، ونرجو بها رحمته يوم لا ينفع مال ولا بنون، كيف لا وقد قال الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم: “المرء مع من أحب”.
Our love for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is an act of worship and among the greatest means of drawing near to Allah the Exalted. Through it we hope for His mercy on the Day when wealth and children will be of no benefit. How could it be otherwise, when the Messenger said: “A person will be with those whom he loves.”
إن المؤمن الصادق ليمتلئ قلبه بمحبة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فيظهر أثرها على الجوارح اتباعًا لسنته وتعظيمًا لقدره، وانقيادًا لأمره، مع الاستعداد لنصرته بالأرواح والمهج والأموال والأهل والأولاد، كما كان حال أصدق الناس في محبته وهم الصالحون والعلماء من هذه الأمة وعلى رأسهم أصحابه رضي الله عنهم حتى قال أبو سفيان رضي الله عنه قبل أن يسلم:
A truthful believer’s heart overflows with love for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and its effect appears on the limbs: following his Sunnah, honoring his rank, submitting to his command, and being ready to support him with one’s life, self, wealth, family, and children. This was the state of those most sincere in their love—the righteous and the scholars of this Ummah, foremost among them his Companions, may Allah be pleased with them. Thus Abu Sufyān, may Allah be pleased with him, before embracing Islam, said:
“ما رأيت من الناس أحدًا يحب أحدًا كحب أصحاب محمد محمدًا”، وذلك لما وقع زيد بن الدثنة أسيرًا عند قريش فأخذوه ليقتلوه، فسأله أبو سفيان: أنشدك بالله يا زيد: أتحب أن محمدًا الآن مكانك نضرب عنقه وأنك في أهلك؟ فقال زيد: “والله ما أحب أن محمدًا الآن في مكانه الذي هو فيه تصيبه شوكة تؤذيه وأني جالس في أهلي”.
“I have never seen a people love a man as the Companions of Muhammad love Muhammad.” He said this when Zayd ibn ad-Dathinnah was captured by Quraysh and they took him out to be executed. Abu Sufyān asked him, “I adjure you by Allah, O Zayd: would you prefer that Muhammad be in your place now so that we strike off his head, while you are safe at home with your family?” Zayd replied, “By Allah, I would not wish Muhammad to be where he is now such that a single thorn would prick him and hurt him, while I sit in comfort among my family.”
وعند رجوع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من أُحد وكان قد أشيع أن الرسول قد قتل، خرجت امرأة من الأنصار فاستُقبلت بأن أباها وزوجها وابنها وأخاها قد قُتلوا جميعًا، وهي تقول: ما فعل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم؟ فقالوا: هو بحمد الله كما تحبين. قالت: أرونيه، فأشاروا إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فلما رأته قالت: “كل مصيبة بعدك جلل” يعني صغيرة.
When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, returned from Uhud and a rumor had spread that he had been killed, a woman from the Anṣār came out and was informed that her father, husband, son, and brother had all been martyred. She kept asking, “What has happened to the Messenger of Allah?” They said, “He is—praise be to Allah—as you would wish.” She said, “Show him to me.” They pointed him out to her, and when she saw him she said, “Every calamity after your safety is small.”
ويُسأل علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه: كيف كان حبكم لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم؟ فيقول: كان والله أحب إلينا من أموالنا وأولادنا وآبائنا وأمهاتنا، ومن الماء البارد على الظمأ.
ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, may Allah be pleased with him, was asked, “How was your love for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?” He said, “By Allah, he was more beloved to us than our wealth and children, than our fathers and mothers—even more beloved to us than cold water to one who thirsts.”
ويلخص القضية أبو بكر الصديق رضي الله عنه حين نعى رسول الله نفسه فقال: “إن عبدًا خيره الله بين الدنيا والآخرة، فاختار ما عند الله”. فقال الصديق رضي الله عنه وهو يبكي: بل نفديك بآبائنا وأمهاتنا يا رسول الله.
Abu Bakr aṣ-Ṣiddīq, may Allah be pleased with him, summarized the matter when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, alluded to his approaching end, saying: “A servant was given a choice by Allah between the world and what is with Allah, and he chose what is with Allah.” Abu Bakr then wept and said, “Rather, we would ransom you with our fathers and mothers, O Messenger of Allah.”
ونسأل الله بحبنا لرسولنا الكريم أن يحشرنا في زمرته وتحت لوائه ، إنه ولي ذلك والقادر عليه ، والحمد لله رب العالمين.
We ask Allah—by our love for our noble Messenger—to gather us in his company and under his banner. Indeed, He is the Protecting Guardian of that and fully capable of it. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
