السؤال

Question:

هل يجوز أن أستمع إلى القرآن وأنا في المكتب ويكون الصوت خفيفاً وأتابع أعمالي وأتكلم مع الآخرين والتحدث في الهاتف أم يجب أن ألتزم بالآية

Is it permissible for me to listen to the recitation of the Quran in the office with a low volume while continuing my work, speaking with others, or answering phone calls? Or must I adhere to the verse:

(وإذا قرئ القرآن فاستمعوا له وانصتوا لعلكم ترحمون)،

“And when the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent that you may receive mercy.”

وهل المقصود بواو الجماعة في الآية الكريمة: المسلمون جميعا وكل من يسمع التلاوة أم أنها تخاطب المسلمين في الصلاة فقط؟

And is the plural form “you” in the verse directed at all Muslims and everyone who hears the recitation, or is it specifically addressing Muslims during prayer only?

الإجابــة

Answer:

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله، وعلى آله وصحبه، أما بعد:

All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his companions. To proceed:

فالأولى للإنسان أن يتفرغ لسماع القرآن وتدبر معانيه التماساً للرحمة المذكورة في قوله تعالى:

It is preferable for a Muslim to devote himself to listening to the Quran and reflecting on its meanings, in pursuit of the mercy mentioned in the words of Allah the Exalted:

﴿وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنْصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ﴾ (الأعراف:٢٠٤)

“And when the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent that you may receive mercy.” (Surah Al-A’raf: 204)

ولكن إذا كان في شغل في مكتبه وفتح شريط القرآن، فالأولى له أن يحرص قدر المستطاع على السماع كما أسلفنا، ولكن لا يجب عليه عند الجمهور، فقد حمل ابن عباس الأمر في الآية على ما إذا سمع القرآن في الصلاة، وحمله بعض السلف على الصلاة والخطبة معاً، ونقل ابن كثير في تفسيره كثيراً من الآثار عن السلف بهذا المعنى، ونقل القرطبي في تفسيره عن النقاش أنه قال: أجمع أهل التفسير على أن هذا الاستماع في الصلاة المكتوبة وغير المكتوبة.

However, if a person is busy in his office and plays a recording of the Quran, then it is better for him to try as much as possible to listen attentively, as mentioned earlier. Yet according to the majority of scholars, it is not obligatory. Ibn Abbas interpreted the command in the verse as referring to listening to the Quran during prayer. Some of the Salaf understood it as applying to both prayer and the Friday sermon. Ibn Kathir in his Tafsir narrated many reports from the Salaf with this meaning, and Al-Qurtubi in his Tafsir quoted from Al-Naqqash who said: “The scholars of Tafsir unanimously agreed that this listening is for both obligatory and non-obligatory prayers.”

وعليه فينبغي الاعتناء بسماع القرآن وتدبره، وإذا عرض شاغل منع من الاستماع والإنصات، فنرجوا ألا يكون ثمة إثم.

Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to listening to the Quran and reflecting on it. But if something arises that prevents listening and silence, we hope there is no sin in that.
