And when Moses returned to his people from the Children of Israel as one angry, sad; because Allah had surely informed him that He has surely tested his people, and that the Samiri has surely misguided them, Moses said: Vile was the succession which you succeeded me from after me, were you in haste for the command of your Lord? meaning: did you seek haste for my coming to you while it is measured from Allah the Exalted? and Moses threw the tablets of the Torah out of anger upon his people who worshipped the calf, and out of anger upon his brother Aaron, and he held by the head of his brother dragging it to him, Aaron said as one seeking sympathy: O son of my mother: indeed the people oppressed me and considered me weak and they almost killed me, so do not let the enemies rejoice by what you do with me, and do not make me in your anger with the people who opposed your command and worshipped the calf.
