And We split the people of Moses from the Children of Israel into twelve tribes according to the number of the Tribes-and they are the sons of Jacob-each tribe recognized from the side of its leader. And We revealed to Moses when his people requested from him the drink when they were thirsty in the -Wandering--: That strike with your staff the stone, then he struck it, then there gushed forth from it twelve springs of water, each tribe from the twelve tribes has surely known their drinking place, no tribe enters upon another in its drinking, and We shaded upon them the clouds, and We sent down upon them the Manna-and it is something resembling gum, its taste like honey-and the Salwa, and it is a bird resembling quail, and We said to them: Eat from the good things of what We provided you, then they disliked that and were bored of it from the length of the persistence upon it, and they said: We will never be patient on one food, and they requested the replacement of that which is lower with that which is better. And they did not wrong Us when they did not give thanks to Allah, and did not stand by what Allah made obligatory upon them, but they used to wrong themselves; since they let pass upon it every good, and exposed it to the evil and the retribution.
