And know-O believers-that what you triumphed with from your enemy through jihad in the cause of Allah, then four-fifths of it is for the fighters who attended the battle, and the remaining fifth is divided into five parts: the first for Allah and for the Messenger, so it is placed in the general interests of the Muslims, and the second for the owners of kinship of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and they are the children of Hashim and the children of al-Muttalib, the fifth was made for them in place of the charity for it is not lawful for them, and the third for the orphans, and the fourth for the needy, and the fifth for the traveler whose provision was cut off, if you were acknowledgers of the monotheism of Allah obedient to Him, believing in what We sent down upon His servant Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, of the verses, the support, and the victory on the day He distinguished between the truth and the falsehood at -Badr-, the day the assembly of the believers and the assembly of the polytheists met. And Allah is over all things powerful nothing frustrates Him.
