There has surely been for you-O believers-a good example in Abraham, peace be upon him, and those with him of the believers, when they said to their disbelieving people in Allah: "Indeed we are free from you and from what you worship instead of Allah of the gods and the equals, we have rejected you, and denied what you are upon of disbelief, and the enmity and hatred has appeared between us and between you ever as long as you remain upon your disbelief, until you believe in Allah alone," but the asking of forgiveness of Abraham for his father does not enter into the imitation; for indeed that was only before it became clear to Abraham that his father was an enemy to Allah, then when it became clear to him that he was an enemy to Allah he disassociated from him, "Our Lord upon You we relied, and to You we returned with repentance, and to You is the return on the Day of Resurrection."
