Men are overseers over the direction of women and their care, by what Allah specified them by it of the characteristics of oversight and preference, and by what they gave them of dowries and spendings. So the righteous, upright ones on the law of Allah from them, are obedient to Allah the Exalted and to their husbands, preservers for all what was hidden from the knowledge of their husbands by what they were entrusted upon it by the preservation of Allah and His success, and those from whom you fear their elevation away from your obedience, then advise them with the good word, then if the good word did not produce fruit with them, then abandon them in the beds, and do not approach them, then if the action of abandonment did not influence them, then hit them a hitting in which there is no harm, then if they obeyed you then beware of their injustice, for indeed Allah the Most High the Great is their Protector, and He is a Retaliator from whoever wronged them and transgressed upon them.
