The Jews ask you-O Messenger-a miracle like the miracle of Moses testifying for you with the truthfulness: that you send down upon them scrolls from Allah written, like the coming of Moses with the tablets from with Allah, so do not wonder-O Messenger-for their predecessors had surely asked Moses-peace be upon him-what was greater: they asked him that he show them Allah openly, then they were struck with the thunderbolt because of their wrongdoing themselves when they asked a matter which is not of their right. And after that Allah revived them after the thunderbolt, and they witnessed the clear signs on the hand of Moses the cutting with the denial of polytheism, they worshipped the calf instead of Allah, then We pardoned from their worship of the calf because of their repentance, and We gave Moses a great argument supporting the truthfulness of his prophethood.
