And relate-O Messenger-to the Children of Israel the news of the two sons of Adam, Cain (Qabil) and Abel (Habil), and it is a news of truth: when each of them both put forward an offering-and it is what is sought nearness by it to Allah the Exalted- then Allah accepted the offering of Abel; because he was God-fearing, and He did not accept the offering of Cain; because he was not God-fearing, so Cain envied his brother, and said: "I will surely kill you," then Abel replied: "Allah only accepts from those who fear Him."
