Question:
A young man, during one of the nights of Ramadan, almost fell into the major sin of adultery (zina). Temptations surrounded him, he tried to move away, but the soul that commands evil (nafs ammarah bis-su’) cornered him. To avoid this crime, he masturbated with his hand and did not commit adultery. Afterwards, he regretted his action and repented. What is the ruling on his fasting? Considering it happened at night, is his fast valid? He is currently in a psychological struggle. Provide us with an explanation, and may Allah reward you with goodness.

As for your fasting, it is valid insha Allah, because consuming things that break the fast invalidates it during the day in Ramadan, not during the night, based on the saying of Allah the Almighty:
“It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives [for sexual relations]. They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them. Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He accepted your repentance and forgave you. So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the sunset. And do not have relations with them while you are staying in the mosques in i’tikaf. These are the limits [set by] Allah, so do not approach them. Thus does Allah make clear His ordinances to the people that they may become righteous.” [Al-Baqarah: 187]
However, disobedience becomes greater in sin according to the time and place, just as obedience is doubled in reward according to the place and time. And Allah knows best.
And Allah knows best.
