There is no sin upon you-O husbands-if you divorced women after the contract upon them, and before you had intercourse with them, or specified a dowry for them, and provide for them with something they benefit from as a consolation for them, and a repulsion for the loneliness of divorce, and a removal for grudges. And this provision (mut'ah) is obligatory according to the state of the divorcing man: upon the rich the amount of the vastness of his provision, and upon the poor the amount of what he possesses, a provision in the manner recognized by Sharia, and it is a fixed right upon those who do good to the divorced women and to themselves by the obedience of Allah.
