كِتَابُ مُجْمَلِ اعْتِقَادِ السَّلَفِ

The Book on the General Belief of the Salaf

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَحْدَهُ وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى مَنْ لَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدَهُ.

All praise is due to Allah alone, and may peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet.

قَالَ الشَّيْخُ الْإِمَامُ الْعَالِمُ الْعَلَّامَةُ شَيْخُ الْإِسْلَامِ تَقِيُّ الدِّينِ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَلِيمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ ابْنِ تَيْمِيَّة الْحَرَّانِي – رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَأَرْضَاهُ -:

Asy-Syaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ وَنَعُوذُ بِهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللَّهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ؛ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلَّمَ

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help, and ask His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Him from the evil within ourselves and from our wrong actions. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He leads astray, none can guide. I testify that there is no god but Allah, alone without partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, his family, and his companions.

أَمَّا بَعْدُ:

Amma Ba’du

فَقَدْ سَأَلَنِي مَنْ تَعَيَّنَتْ إجَابَتُهُمْ أَنْ أَكْتُبَ لَهُمْ مَضْمُونَ مَا سَمِعُوهُ مِنِّي فِي بَعْضِ الْمَجَالِسِ؛ مِنْ الْكَلَامِ فِي التَّوْحِيدِ وَالصِّفَاتِ وَفِي الشَّرْعِ وَالْقَدَرِ لِمَسِيسِ الْحَاجَةِ إلَى تَحْقِيقِ هَذَيْنِ الْأَصْلَيْنِ، وَكَثْرَةِ الِاضْطِرَابِ فِيهِمَا

Indeed, those who required a response from me have asked that I write down the content of what they heard from me in some gatherings, regarding the discourse on Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and Attributes, as well as on Sharia and Qadar (Predestination), due to the urgent need to clarify these two fundamental principles and the extensive confusion surrounding them.

فَإِنَّهُمَا مَعَ حَاجَةِ كُلِّ أَحَدٍ إلَيْهِمَا وَمَعَ أَنَّ أَهْلَ النَّظَرِ وَالْعِلْمِ وَالْإِرَادَةِ وَالْعِبَادِ: لَا بُدَّ أَنْ يَخْطِرَ لَهُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ مِنْ الْخَوَاطِرِ وَالْأَقْوَالِ مَا يَحْتَاجُونَ مَعَهُ إلَى بَيَانِ الْهُدَى مِنْ الضَّلَالِ, لَا سِيَّمَا مَعَ كَثْرَةِ مَنْ خَاضَ فِي ذَلِكَ بِالْحَقِّ تَارَةً وَبِالْبَاطِلِ تَارَاتٍ وَمَا يَعْتَرِي الْقُلُوبَ فِي ذَلِكَ: مِنْ الشُّبَهِ الَّتِي تُوقِعُهَا فِي أَنْوَاعِ الضَّلَالَاتِ

For both of these are necessary for everyone, whether they are scholars, researchers, officials, or servants. There will always be thoughts and statements in their minds that require clarification of guidance from misguidance, especially given the large number of those who engage in these matters, sometimes rightly and often wrongly. Moreover, the hearts are troubled by doubts that lead to various forms of deviation.
