Ibn Kathir passed away on Thursday, the 26th of Sha'ban, in the year 774 AH. Large crowds came out in Damascus for his funeral procession, and he was buried in the Sufi cemetery outside Bab al-Nasr in Damascus according to his will—may Allah have mercy on him.
The Hafiz Ibn Kathir left dozens of works in various scientific fields, particularly in history, tafsir (exegesis), and hadith. Here are his most important printed, manuscript, and lost works:
A- Printed Works:
1. Tafsir al-Qur’an al-Karim: This is the book currently before us. It was first printed in Bulaq on the margin of Fath al-Bayan by al-Qannuji in ten volumes. Then it was printed in the year 1300 AH in the footnotes of the book Majma’ al-Bayan fi Maqasid al-Qur’an by Sayyid Abu al-Tayyib Siddiq ibn Hasan Khan. It was also printed at al-Manar Press in Egypt in the year 1343 AH by order of Sultan ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Faysal, the Imam of Najd, with Tafsir al-Baghawi on its margin. It was reprinted in an abridged form titled ‘Umdat al-Tafsir ‘an al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir in the year 1375 AH, in five volumes, based on a precious manuscript in the Azhariyyah Library.
In this great tafsir, the Hafiz adopted the method of interpreting the Qur’an by the Qur’an, then by hadith. He avoided Isra’iliyyat (Judeo-Christian narrations) and criticized relying on them except for what the Sharia permits. Regarding this, he says:
"This, in my view, and its likes and equivalents, are among the fabrications of some of their heretics, with which they confuse the people regarding their religion" «1».
In another place, he says:
"And that which we follow in this tafsir is turning away from many of the Isra'ili narrations due to the wasting of time they cause and due to the lies they contain that were promoted among them" «2».
2. Al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah: A major work on history that has been printed in several editions. Perhaps the oldest edition was in the year 1348 AH with the assistance of King ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman Al Saud, at the Kurdistan Scientific Press, based on a photographed manuscript in the Wali al-Din Library in Istanbul (Asitana).
3. Jami’ al-Masanid wa al-Sunan: A massive book, printed for the first time by Dar al-Kutub al-‘Ilmiyyah in Beirut in 38 volumes.
4. Al-Ijtihad fi Talab al-Jihad: It was first printed at Abu al-Hawl Press in the year 1347 AH in an unverified edition, then it was printed in the year 1401 AH in Beirut, edited by ‘Abdullah ‘Abd al-Rahim ‘Usaylan.
5. Ikhtisar ‘Ulum al-Hadith: It was printed in Mecca in the year 1353 AH, corrected by Sheikh Muhammad ‘Abd al-Razzaq Hamza. It was also printed in Egypt in the year 1355 AH, edited by Ahmad Shakir; then Shakir reprinted it in the year—

Wafatnya Ibnu Katsir
Ibnu Katsir wafat pada hari Kamis, 26 Syaban tahun 774 H. Sebuah kerumunan besar hadir di Damaskus untuk mengantar jenazahnya, dan beliau dimakamkan di tempat sufi di luar Bab al-Nasr di Damaskus, sesuai dengan wasiat beliau. Semoga Allah merahmati beliau.

Al-Hafizh Ibnu Katsir meninggalkan puluhan karya di berbagai bidang ilmu, terutama dalam sejarah, tafsir, dan hadits. Berikut adalah beberapa karya beliau yang tercetak, manuskrip, dan yang hilang:

Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Karim
Ini adalah buku yang ada di tangan kita: pertama kali diterbitkan di Bulaq pada tepi Fath al-Bayan karya al-Qanūjī dalam sepuluh jilid. Kemudian diterbitkan pada tahun 1300 H sebagai catatan dari buku Majma' al-Bayan fi Maqasid al-Qur'an oleh Sayyid Abu al-Tayyib Siddiq bin Hasan Khan. Buku ini kemudian diterbitkan oleh Matba'at al-Manar di Mesir pada tahun 1343 H atas perintah Sultan Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman al-Faisal, Imam Najd, dengan mencantumkan tafsir al-Baghawi. Buku ini diterbitkan kembali dalam versi ringkas dengan nama 'Umdat al-Tafsir 'an al-Hafizh Ibnu Katsir pada tahun 1375 H dalam lima jilid, berdasarkan manuskrip langka di Perpustakaan Azhar.

3. Jam' al-Masanid wa al-Sunan:
Sebuah kitab besar yang pertama kali diterbitkan di Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah di Beirut dalam 38 jilid.
4. Al-Ijtihad fi Talab al-Jihad:
