Seven Whom Allah Will Shade Under His Shade (Part 3)
Translated by: Reza Ervani bin Asmanu
The article Seven Whom Allah Will Shade Under His Shade is included in the Hadith Explanation Category
The fourth: Two people who love each other for the sake of Allah, they meet for His sake and part for His sake, because the firmest bond of faith is loving for the sake of Allah and hating for the sake of Allah.
Allah Ta’ala said:
“O you who have believed, whoever among you should revert from his religion – Allah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allah and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allah; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing” [Al-Ma’idah: 54].
And in a hadith from Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Whoever loves for the sake of Allah, hates for the sake of Allah, gives for the sake of Allah, and withholds for the sake of Allah, has indeed perfected his faith 1
And from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not point out to you something which, if you do, you will love one another? Spread peace (salam) among yourselves 2
And this is one of the qualities through which a servant finds the sweetness and pleasure of faith; these two people were not brought together by kinship, blood relation, or worldly interests, but rather they were united by the love for Allah Ta’ala, until death separated them while they were in that state.
From Abu Malik Al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Indeed, for Allah there are servants who are not prophets nor martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs envy due to their proximity and their place with Allah.
Then a Bedouin man from the outskirts of the crowd knelt down and motioned with his hand to the Prophet of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم and said:
“O Prophet of Allah, people among humanity who are not prophets nor martyrs, yet the prophets and martyrs envy them for their gatherings and their proximity to Allah?! Describe them to us—meaning, portray them for us.”
Then the face of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم beamed with joy at the Bedouin’s question, and the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
They are people from various walks of life and different tribes, with no close kinship connecting them; they loved each other for the sake of Allah and were sincere to one another. Allah will place pulpits of light for them on the Day of Resurrection and seat them upon them, making their faces light and their garments light. People will be terrified on the Day of Resurrection while they will not be terrified; they are the allies of Allah upon whom there is no fear, nor shall they grieve 3
The fifth: A man who is invited by a woman to herself—and she is not just any woman, but a woman of high status and position, to whom Allah has given beauty that makes the temptation with her more severe and the attachment to her greater. O Allah! How can one escape such a situation except with deep faith and sharp insight?!
Qadhi ‘Iyadh said: “He specified ‘of status and beauty’ because of the great desire for her and the difficulty of attaining her, as she combines both status and beauty. Moreover, she is the one inviting to herself and seeking it, which removes the hardship of having to pursue or entice her. Thus, refraining from her out of fear of Allah Ta’ala when she herself has extended the invitation while possessing both status and beauty is among the most perfect degrees and greatest acts of obedience. Consequently, Allah Ta’ala decreed that He would shade him in His shade. A woman of status is one of honorable lineage and noble ancestry” 4

- Musnad of Imam Ahmad (5/343) and “Syarhus Sunnah” by Al-Baghawi (13/50-51) number (3464). Both researchers Shu’aib and Zuhair stated: It was narrated by Ahmad (5/341 and 343) and though there is some discussion regarding Syahr bin Hausyab, it has a supporting witness in the hadith of Ibn Umar, narrated by Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak (4/170-171) who authenticated it, which Adz-Dzahabi agreed with. Another supporting hadith is from Abu Hurairah in Sahih Ibn Hibban (2508) with an authentic chain.
