في رمضان تصفد الشياطين ومع ذلك ترتكب الكثير من المعاصي هل يعني أن الإنسان هو أيضا مصدر شر من غير وسوسة الشيطان؟
In Ramadan, the devils are chained, yet many sins are still committed. Does this mean that humans are also a source of evil without the whispers (waswas) of the devil?

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله، وعلى آله وصحبه، أما بعد:
All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his companions. To proceed:
فإن وقوع المعصية من بني آدم قد يرجع لأسباب عديدة، منها الشيطان والهوى والنفس الأمارة بالسوء، فعلى القول بتصفيد عموم الشياطين في رمضان، فإن المعصية قد تقع بسبب تسويل النفس لصاحبها، قال السندي في حاشيته على سنن النسائي عند قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: (وصفدت الشياطين):
The occurrence of sins among the children of Adam can be attributed to many causes, including the devil, whims (hawa), and the soul that persistently enjoins evil (al-nafs al-ammarah bi-su’). According to the opinion that devils in general are chained during Ramadan, sins may still occur due to the soul’s prompting of its owner. Al-Sindi stated in his commentary (Hashiyah) on Sunan an-Nasa’i regarding the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) statement: “(And the devils are chained)”:
“ولا ينافيه وقوع المعاصي، إذ يكفي وجود المعاصي شرارة النفس وخبائثها، ولا يلزم أن تكون كل معصية بواسطة شيطان، وإلا لكان لكل شيطان شيطان ويتسلسل، وأيضاً معلوم أنه ما سبق إبليس شيطان آخر، فمعصيته ما كانت إلا من قبل نفسه.” انتهى.
“This does not negate the occurrence of sins, as the presence of the soul’s spark and its wickedness is sufficient for sins to exist. It is not necessary for every sin to be mediated by a devil; otherwise, every devil would need another devil, leading to an infinite regress (tasalsul). Furthermore, it is well known that no other devil preceded Iblis; thus, his disobedience originated only from himself.” (End).
وهناك توجيهات أخرى للحديث ذكرها الباجي في شرح الموطأ، حيث يقول: “قوله وصفدت الشياطين يحتمل أن يريد به أنها تصفد حقيقة، فتمتنع من بعض الأفعال التي لا تطيقها إلا مع الانطلاق،
There are other interpretations of the hadith mentioned by Al-Baji in Sharh al-Muwatta’, where he says: “His statement ‘and the devils are chained’ could potentially mean they are literally chained, thus being prevented from certain actions they cannot perform except when free.
وليس في ذلك دليل على امتناع تصرفها جملة، لأن المصفد هو المغلول العنق إلى اليد يتصرف بالكلام والرأي وكثير من السعي، ويحتمل أن هذا الشهر لبركته وثواب الأعمال فيه وغفران الذنوب تكون الشياطين فيه كالمصفدة، لأن سعيها لا يؤثر، وإغواءها لا يضر… ويحتمل أن يريد صنفاً من الشياطين يمنعون التصرف جملة.” انتهى.
This is not evidence for the total cessation of their actions, as one who is chained (mushaffad) is someone whose neck is bound to their hands but can still act through speech, opinion, and much effort. It is also possible that due to the blessings of this month, the reward for deeds, and the forgiveness of sins, the devils are treated as if they were chained because their efforts become ineffective and their temptations do not cause harm… And it is possible that it refers to a specific class of devils who are entirely prevented from acting.” (End).
وقد ذهب بعض أهل العلم إلى أن الذين يصفدون من الشياطين مردتهم، فعلى هذا فقد تقع المعصية بوسوسة من لم يصفد من الشياطين. وتراجع الفتوى الأخر هنا لمزيد الفائدة.
Some scholars hold the view that those who are chained among the devils are only the rebellious ones (maradah). Based on this, sins may still occur through the whispers of those devils who are not chained. Please refer to the other fatwa here for further benefit:
