Question:

ما حكم من يحفظ القرآن الكريم دون أحكام التلاوة لكن يحسن القراءة ولا يخطئ أخطاء نحوية أرجو الإفادة جزاكم الله كل خير

What is the ruling on someone who memorizes the Quran without learning the rules of tajwid, but recites well and makes no grammatical (nahwu) mistakes? Please clarify. Jazakumullahu khairan.

Answer:

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله، وعلى آله وصحبه، أما بعد:

All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and companions. To proceed:

فعلى المسلم إذا أراد أن يقرأ القرآن أو يحفظه أن يتعلم أحكام التجويد وأصوله لأن تعلم ذلك عليه واجب، ومن فرط فيه وهو قادر على تعلمه أثم إذا أدى ذلك إلى اللحن الجلي،

A Muslim who wishes to read or memorize the Quran should learn the rules of tajwid and its basic principles, for learning them is obligatory. Whoever neglects this while being capable of learning it is sinful if such neglect leads to clear pronunciation errors (lahn jaliy).

أما إذا كان لحنه خفياً فلا يصل إلى حد التحريم، كما هو مبين في الفتوى الأخرى هنا

However, if the error is subtle (lahn khafiy), then it does not reach the level of being forbidden, as explained in the following fatwa:
