All praise is due to Allah, peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم, and I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah alone, without any partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger. To proceed:
Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Seven whom Allah Ta’ala will shade in His shade on the day when there is no shade except His shade: a just ruler, a youth who grew up in the worship of Allah, a man whose heart is attached to the mosques, two men who love each other for the sake of Allah, meeting for His sake and parting for His sake, a man who is called by a woman of position and beauty and he says: “Indeed, I fear Allah”, a man who gives charity and hides it so that his left hand does not know what his right hand has spent, and a man who remembers Allah in solitude and his eyes overflow with tears 1
Allah will gather all creatures on the Day of Resurrection, the first of them and the last of them
“That He may recompense those who have done evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who have done good with the best [reward – Paradise]” [An-Najm: 31]
On a day long in duration, great in its horror, severe in its distress, Allah warned His servants about it and commanded them to prepare for it. Allah Ta’ala said:
“O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the [final] Hour is a terrible thing. On the day you see it every nursing mother will be distracted from that [child] she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicated; but the punishment of Allah is severe” [Al-Hajj: 1-2].
On that great day, the sun will draw near to the creation until it is a mile away from them, and people will be in sweat according to their deeds: some will be up to their ankles, some up to their knees, some up to their waists, and some will be bridled by sweat 2
Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
People will sweat on the Day of Resurrection until their sweat goes seventy cubits deep into the earth and it will bridle them until it reaches their ears 3
In that great standing place, Allah will shade these seven in His shade, so let us reflect on their deeds that necessitated this great reward for them.
The first: A just ruler, who judges between people with truth and does not follow desires, as Allah Ta’ala said:
“[We said], ‘O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allah.’ Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allah will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account” [Shad: 26].
Complying with the command of his Lord, the Almighty, when He says:
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing” [An-Nisa: 58].
And from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
Indeed, those who are just will be in the presence of Allah upon pulpits of light to the right of the Most Merciful, the Almighty, and both of His hands are right hands—those who are just in their judgment, their families, and what they are put in charge of 4
This is the reward for the one who is just in his decision and gives the right to those who deserve it, so look at the recompense of the one who is unjust in his decision and acts unfairly.
Allah Ta’ala says:
“And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror]” [Ibrahim: 42].
Narrated by Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
There is no man who leads the affairs of ten people or more except that he will come to Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, shackled on the Day of Resurrection, his hand to his neck; his righteousness will free him or his sin will destroy him. Its beginning is blame, its middle is regret, and its end is disgrace on the Day of Resurrection 5
